Brigitte Schulte

Brigitte Schulte formerly Traupe, b. Brewitz (born September 26, 1943 in Treuburg , East Prussia ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

From 1998 to 2002 she was Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Alfeld in 1963, Brigitte Schulte studied Protestant theology , political science and general pedagogy at the Lüneburg University of Education , which she completed in 1966 with the state examination . Then she worked as a teacher at the center of school Eimbeckhausen operates. From 1975 to 1976 she was head of the Gehrden orientation stage .

Brigitte Schulte is a member of the board of trustees of the aid organization CARE Germany .

Since May 5, 1989, her name has been Brigitte Schulte (previously: Brigitte Traupe). She has been widowed since 1998.

Brigitte Schulte has been a member of the SPD since 1970.

From 1972 to 1976 she was a member of the district council of the Springe district and the Hameln-Pyrmont district . In addition, from 1973 to 1976 she was SPD parliamentary group leader in the city council of Bad Münder am Deister .

From 1976 to 2005 she was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1987 to 1990 she was the parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group . From 1994 to 1998 she was deputy defense policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group and advocated opening the Bundeswehr to women.

From 1991 to 2005 she was spokeswoman for the North Atlantic Assembly ( NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO-PA)). From 1993 to 1996 she was chair of the Committee on Civil Affairs.

Brigitte Schulte entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Bundestag in 1976 for the Hameln-Springe constituency and since then has always been a member of the Hameln-Pyrmont-Holzminden constituency . In the early elections to the German Bundestag in 2005, she no longer ran. Her successor was Gabriele Lösekrug-Möller ; she successfully defended the direct mandate for the SPD.

Public offices

After the Bundestag election in 1998 , she was appointed to the Federal Government led by Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on October 27, 1998 as Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense . After the federal election in 2002 , she left office on October 22, 2002.
