The Brilliance BS6 is a notchback sedan built from 2002 to 2016 by the Chinese brand Brilliance .
Model history
The vehicle was originally designed by Italdesign Giugiaro in 2000, went into production in 2002 and was revised by Pininfarina in 2006. It was assembled at the BMW Brilliance Automotive plant in Shenyang .
The car was offered on the European market for a short time in 2007 by an independent Belgian importer HSO and sold in Germany under the name Brilliance BS6 .
In 2007 and 2009 the vehicle received further facelifts. A hybrid version should be shown at the 2009 Guangzhou Auto Show .
In other markets
In other markets, the model is also offered as the Zhonghua M1, Zhonghua Grandeur, Brilliance M1 and Brilliance Galena (produced by Bavarian Auto Manufacturing Company in Egypt ).
The new design from BMW has been implemented in the Egyptian model since 2009 and achieved a rating of three stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.
technology
The chassis of the vehicle was co-developed by Porsche .
drive
The car is powered by a 2.0 liter gasoline engine with a maximum output of 90 kW (122 hp) from Mitsubishi . A previously offered 2.4-liter engine with 95 kW (129 hp) maximum output has since been withdrawn from the range. A self-developed 1.8-liter turbo engine with a maximum output of 125 kW (170 hp) was already on offer in China; a diesel engine is said to have been in development for the European market.
The Brilliance Galena was only offered in a 2-liter engine from Mitsubishi Motors . This initially had a maximum output of 95 kW and was offered with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The additional four-cylinder engine is said to have come from Mitsubishi with a displacement of 2350 cm³ and a maximum output of 100 kW.
safety
At the first Euro-NCAP - Crash Test by TUV Nord it two out of five stars reached. Revised models achieved two stars at ADAC, one of which was canceled due to the exceeding of biomechanical limits in the side impact test and three stars at Idiada Automotive in Tarragona, Spain. Due to the lack of side airbags (also in the revised model), the vehicle occupants are exposed to increased risk in the event of a side impact.
Another point of criticism was the unavailable vehicle dynamics control, which was also not offered for an extra charge. Many car magazines and also the ADAC were critical of this.
