British General Election 1892
The United Kingdom general election in 1892 ran from July 4 to July 26, 1892.
Exit and consequences
The Conservative Party , led by Lord Salisbury , again won the most seats but not the majority, as the Liberal Party of William Ewart Gladstone 80 seats as more at the parliamentary elections of 1886 received. The Liberal Unionist Party , which had previously supported the Conservative government, saw its vote and seat count decline. Despite the split between the Parnellist and anti-Parnellist factions, the Irish nationalist election result was good.
With the Liberals alone lacking a majority, Salisbury refused to step down after hearing the election results and waited for a defeat in an August 11th vote of no confidence. Gladstone formed a minority government dependent on the support of the Irish nationalists.
