Brook Port is a small town (with the status " City ") in Massac County in southern US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 Brookport had 984 residents.

Brookport is located at 37 ° 07'25 "north latitude and 88 ° 37'49" west longitude and extends over 2 km². The city is on the right bank of the Ohio River , which forms the border with Kentucky . The confluence of the Ohio in the Mississippi at the junction of the three states of Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri is 65.8 km to the west. The Indiana border is 134 km to the northeast.

Neighboring towns to Brookport are Metropolis (9 miles west-northwest) and Shady Grove (7.1 miles east). On the opposite bank of the river is the city of Paducah , Kentucky, whose center is 7.5 km southeast of Brookport.

The nearest major cities are St. Louis , Missouri (256 km northwest), Louisville , Kentucky (358 km east-northeast), Tennessee's capital Nashville (230 km southeast) and Tennessee's largest city, Memphis (282 km southwest).

The oldest traffic route is the Ohio River, on which an important part of the flow of goods is still transported through the eastern center of the USA. The river is kept navigable for large inland waterways by means of dams.

On the western edge of Brookport, Interstate 24 , which runs northwest to Nashville, crosses the Ohio. US Highway 45 runs through the city center and south over the Irvin S. Cobb Bridge out of the city. All other roads are subordinate routes or inner-city connecting roads.

With the Metropolis Municipal Airport is a small airfield 17.6 km northwest of Brookport. The nearest major airports are Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport (277 km northwest), Nashville International Airport (239 km southeast), and Memphis International Airport (299 km southwest).
