Bruce Gentry - Daredevil of the Skies is a 15-part American serial based on the comic book Bruce Gentry by Ray Bailey , which appeared from 1945 to 1951. The serial is the first filmic representation of a flying saucer . The first episode was performed on February 10, 1949.

action

Bruce Gentry is a charter pilot who flies a Douglas DC-3 . He is a mysterious secret weapon on the track by an enemy secret agents , The recorder called, is controlled. This is a remote-controlled flying saucer that can be used against both stationary and moving targets. The recorder transmits the instructions to the members of its gang only with tape recordings ; when he appears in person, he wears a mask.

When Bruce Gentry's friend Dr. Benson, a famous scientist who kidnapped Recorder , hired Bruce from industrialist Paul Radcliffe to track down the kidnapper. Dr. Benson was apparently kidnapped in order to technically improve the flying saucer the recorder uses. To supply the saucer with fuel, the recorder needs the ( fictional ) mineral platonite. His only source of supply is the mine owned by siblings Juanita and Frank Farrell. But since the mine’s production is exhausted, the recorder has to fall back on supplies from the American government.

After an intensive search with the help of Juanita and Frank and after numerous brawls and chases with gang members of the recorder , Bruce finally finds out that Dr. Benson and the "recorder" are identical. When the gang tries to attack the strategically important Panama Canal with the flying disc , Bruce and his DC-3 manage to intercept the device by ramming it and detonate it. His plane is destroyed too, but he manages to get off with a parachute in time. All gang members and the recorder are killed by an explosion in the gangster headquarters.

Production notes

It is a cheap production, which is characterized above all by the fact that the flying disc was animated by cartoon and no model was used. Numerous fake cliffhangers were also used, and recordings of fights and chases were mounted several times .

Lore

It is not known whether an original version still exists. A DVD edited by classicmoviesdvd.com is probably based on the video version of a later television broadcast .
