Brunary is a village with a Schulzenamt in the municipality of Uście Gorlickie in the Powiat Gorlicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland .

The place is located on the Biała River in the Lower Beskids in the so-called Lemkenland .

history

The place was founded by Samuel Jaszko according to the founding privilege of King Casimir the Great from 1335 under German law . From 1391 he belonged to the episcopal rule Muszyna . After the invasion of the Russians , it was transferred to Wallachian law in 1426 or 1547 by Bishop Samuel Maciejowski . In 1577 the daughter settlement Brunary Niżne was re-established, after which the older Brunary was named Brunary Wyżne .

During the first partition of Poland , Brunary came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

In 1900 the municipality of Brunary Niżne had 80 houses with 457 inhabitants, 389 of them Ruthenian-speaking, 58 Polish-speaking, 389 Greek-Catholic, 45 Roman-Catholic, 23 Jews; Brunary Wyżne had 65 houses with 361 inhabitants, of which 348 were Ruthenian-speaking, 13 were Polish-speaking, 348 were Greek-Catholics, 7 were Roman-Catholics and 6 were Jews.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Brunary came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . In 1947 the Lemken were expelled as part of the Vistula campaign .

From 1975 to 1998 Brunary was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
