Bruneau is an unincorporated community in Owyhee County in the southwestern part of the US state Idaho . It lies between the confluence of the Bruneau River and the Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park .

Bruneau's geographic coordinates are 42 ° 53 ′ N , 115 ° 48 ′ W (42.8804516, -115.7973081); the place is at an altitude of 777 m . The settlement lies on the eastern flank of the Bruneau Valley , above the Bruneau arm of the Strike Reservoir .
State Highways 51 and 78 pass directly south of the village. Both trunk roads have a common course in this area for a few kilometers. State Highway 51 and State Highway 78 meet about two miles west of Bruneau , and they split just before ID-51 crosses the Snake River . ID-51 runs north to Mountain Home in Elmore County and south across the state line as Nevada Route 225 to Elko , Nevada . The ID-78 leads west to Grand View , Murphy and Marsing and east to Hammett and Interstate 84 .
