The Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium Amstetten (BG / BRG  Amstetten , also Ostarrichi-Gymnasium ) is a general education secondary school in Amstetten .

history

Today's high school was founded in 1938 as a municipal high school for boys , with a separate class for girls. This school was located on Pestalozzistraße. After the Second World War, the school was converted into a Bundesrealgymnasium and in 1962 it became the Bundesgymnasium Amstetten, which until 1980 also included an economics high school for girls .

From 1962, today's school building was also built according to plans by the architects Wilhelm Hubatsch and Richard Gach , the move was in 1966.

In the grammar school (with Latin from the 3rd grade = 7th  grade ) from the school year 1966/67 in the 5th grade, there was the option of choosing between a modern language and a realistic branch. From the school year 1987/88 onwards, information and communication technology was taught with the school trial computer science high school (technical school type grammar school / Realgymnasium with special consideration of computer science ) from the 3rd grade onwards, which in the upper level with additional computer science-related lessons (e.g. network technology, databases , ...) has been expanded. After several modifications, however, all computer science subjects were finally moved to the upper level. With the 2005/06 school year a new focus on sport and exercise was added.

In 1996 the alternative name Ostarrichi-Gymnasium was chosen.

Educational offer

After the computer science high school trial , where the curriculum had to be changed several times, the high school is again run with a uniform lower level . The differentiation within the framework of school autonomy takes place in the fifth grade, where you can choose from three branches. It is noteworthy that here the grammar school (Latin or French in long form plus third language in short form) is combined with the Realgymnasium (second foreign language in short form) and the second foreign language is optionally discontinued in the lower level.

Language and communication

This branch largely corresponds to a modern language grammar school . From the third grade onwards, you can choose between Latin or French and from the 5th grade onwards, Latin, French or Spanish are added. There is also the compulsory subject of rhetoric .

Computer science

This branch converts the science focus of the realistic high school into a branch with information and communication technology . In the third grade you can choose between Latin or French and in the fifth grade you can keep this choice or start again with Latin, French or Spanish, provided that this language was not already learned in the lower grades. This branch is unique in Austria and is based on the experiences of the school experiment carried out at this school.

Sport and exercise

This branch has existed since the 2005/06 school year. In addition to enhanced exercise and sports also will sport customer informed. As in the computer science branch, you can choose between Latin or French in the third grade and keep this choice in the fifth grade or start again with Latin, French or Spanish, if this was not already chosen in the lower level.

The Ostarrichi-Gymnasium was one of the pioneering schools of the Healthy School project , which aims to improve physical activity and health care in schools. In 2007/08 there was an extensive award of sports badges in this regard.

The cooperation with the volleyball Bundesliga club VCA Amstetten (VCA HYPO Lower Austria) is particularly successful. The high school has its own volleyball class, in which the U15 team of the VCA 2013/2014 became Austrian champions .
