The Federal Association of Young Authors and Authors ( BVjA ) is a German interest group for young literary professionals of all genres in the legal form of a registered association based in Bonn . The association was founded in 1987 at the federal level as the successor organization of the Federal Ring of Young Authors (BJA) .

The association maintains regular author meetings in German cities and organizes annual author seminars for the Frankfurt Book Fair. With a newsletter and the quarterly membership magazine Qwertz, it provides information about interesting facts for young authors.

The association has been providing the concepts founded by Norbert Kron since it was founded . Magazine for literature ; since 1995 also the literary magazine (LiMa) published. Until 2005, Federwelt was the association's member magazine.

The association supports young authors with free initial editing and the possibility of initial legal advice from an association legal adviser.

The BVjA is one of the initiating associations of the "Fairer Buchmarkt" initiative, in whose authors' protest against Amazon.com and against a monopoly of the book trade in 2014 over 2000 writers participated after Amazon sanctioned books from Bonnier Media Germany publishers in order to raise price margins for Enforce e-books.

The BVjA was in Berlin on October 2, 2016 - in addition to the female authors 'association , 42 authors, PEN , Association of German Writers , Three Seas Writers' & Translator's Council , PAN, Syndicate and Murderous Sisters - a founding member of the Author Rights Network . As the only nationwide interest organization specifically for young writers, the association takes a stand on current issues and gives young authors a public hearing. He demands more courage from publishers and politicians to support young authors in particular.

World Book Day on 23 April 2008, the association founded jointly with the Association of German writers and writers , the IG authors authors and authors of Switzerland , the Coalition for Fair Publishing . In the same year the association drew attention to the fact that the Frankfurt publishing group had deceived authors such as Ralph Giordano , Joachim Sartorius and Alfred Grosser in the publication of a Goethe anthology. As a result, the said publishing group tried to intimidate the BVjA and all supporters of the action alliance for fair publishers with threats of lawsuits and defamation.

Together with the Leipzig Book Fair , the association has been organizing publishers 'speed dating in German-speaking countries every year since 2015 and also cooperates every year with the Frankfurt Book Fair with various events, such as the 1st VIP Authors' Conference in 2018 on the subject of "Living from Writing" who sometimes prominent speakers such as bestselling author Sebastian Fitzek shared their experiences with young authors.

In October 2017, the young author Nikodem Skrobisz (Leveret Pale) was elected “Board Member for Self-Publishing” in order to further expand the work for the future market of self-publishing for young authors.

The association organizes literary competitions on current topics.

Together with the Armin T. Wegner Society, the BVjA awards the international Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger Literature Prize, which was most recently under the patronage of Jörg Thadeusz .

On the occasion of the commemoration day “20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall” in 2009, he organized the federal literature competition “I'm an 89” with the support of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media .

Members and Board of Directors

The authors Tanja Kinkel , Titus Müller , Markus Orths and Kristina Dunker began their literary journey with the BVjA. The association has regional representations in the federal states. Furthermore, Austrians and Swiss are among the members. The board of directors of the BVjA consists of honorary members who are re-elected every two years in October at the general meeting. There is no longer an age limit. The association is aimed specifically at young authors and those who are at the beginning of their writing career.

The current board spokesman is Tobias Kiwitt . Martin Halotta is the deputy spokesman for the board, while Tatjana Flade is the managing director. Member of the board for public relations and marketing is the author Brina Stein (Sabrina Reulecke). The author Ute Bareiss is a board member for seminars and Nikodem Skrobisz is a board member for self-publishing. The office of the non-profit association is located in Bonn . The association is divided into several regional groups that organize one or more get-togethers and various events in almost all major cities in Germany and are coordinated by the regional group coordinator Brina Stein.
