Concepts. Zeitschrift für Literatur is a German-language literary magazine that has been published annually since 1985 . It is published by the Federal Association of Young Authors (BVjA).

In “Concepts” previously unpublished contributions from the fields of poetry , prose , essay , also poetry translations (mainly from English) and photography appear, which are presented to the public for the first time. The magazine brings together texts by established and young authors. A review section provides information on the most important new publications of the year.

The declared concept of this literary magazine is to present works by established authors alongside previously unknown author voices.

history

The magazine was founded by Norbert Kron . The first year appeared under the title “Concepts. Newspaper for young literature ”and consisted of a four-sided DIN A3 sheet folded in the middle . Only young authors were presented. Over the years, the magazine developed into a magazine on young contemporary German-language literature. Today the magazine appears in book format and has around 180 pages.

From the 11th edition (1999) the magazine was called “Concepts. Zeitschrift zur Zeit “and pursued the goal of increasingly taking up essays on contemporary cultural topics. The editor-in-chief was held by Stefan Sprang .

Since the 24th edition (2004) it has been published under the now well-known title “Concepts. Zeitschrift für Literatur ”and forms a cross-section of young contemporary literature. Today well-known authors alternate with new, unknown writers. From 1999 to 2003 Markus Orths was editor-in-chief. Christine Langer has been responsible for the magazine since 2003 .

"Concepts" accompanied the path z. B. by Tanja Dückers , Joachim Zelter , Jan Wagner , Kurt Drawert , Ulrike Draesner , Nico Bleutge , Mirko Bonné , Marion Gay , Norbert Hummelt , Ralph Pordzik, Marion Poschmann and Björn Kuhligk .

Friederike Mayröcker , Herta Müller , Oskar Pastior and Rafik Schami also presented new and unpublished works in the magazine.

Still of importance today and praised as “literary candy” in a feature section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the translations of a poem by Friederike Mayröcker in “Concepts” are valid . In issue 25 (2005) fourteen authors from all over the world translated Mayröcker's elementary poem “What do you need” into various languages, including Michael Hamburger into English, Cees Nooteboom into Dutch and Fuad Rifka into Arabic. In issue 31 (2011), the winners' contributions by Yevgeniy Breyger , Susanne Eules and Cornelia Lotter of the Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger Literature Prize were first published here.

reception

Concepts is “the forum for first publications from contemporary literature”, said the Schwäbische Post in August 2006 in its feature section.

The Badische Zeitung describes the magazine as "an important magazine, the window opens into the literary work of the present". The Südwest Presse mentions the "platform on which as yet unknown authors can make themselves known" and recognizes "how diverse the mixture of the magazine is that (...) has made a contribution to contemporary German-language literature."

Concepts is an established literary magazine and is regularly discussed in the features section of German daily newspapers.

Die Zeit , the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung use articles from the magazine for second printing.
