Buch Castle (Canton of Zurich)
Castle book

The Castle book is an Outbound castle in Winterthur , which on today as Schlössli Buck or Maierislibuck known Burgstall on the slopes of Dättnauerberg between Dättnau and Brütten was located. It was the seat of the Knights of Brütten.

history

Buch Castle was probably the seat of the von Brütten knights, who were ministerials at Einsiedeln Abbey . Heinrich von Brütten, a representative of the family, was first mentioned in a document in May 1246. After the knight Konrad von Brütten died without male descendants, his two daughters sold the Buch farm to the Einsiedeln monastery on June 11, 1306. It can be assumed that the castle was also abandoned at this time.

Representatives of the sex later appeared in Einsiedeln Abbey, in Zurich and Winterthur, among others . The last written mention of a representative of the sex dates back to 1443 in Frauenfeld . The area of the Buch farm has also long been overgrown, the name Chomberg , which is derived from Kornberg, still bears witness to the former agricultural use.

The castle ruins were still shown on historical maps from the 16th and 17th centuries, and in 1850 the walls are said to have been visible. The castle stables, on which no traces of masonry are visible today, have not been archaeologically researched to this day.
