The list of castles and palaces in the canton of Zurich shows all castles and palaces in the canton of Zurich .

In the canton of Zurich there are 18 castles , one to come and 33 castles , for a total of 52 buildings. Most are open to the public and only a few are still privately owned. The first buildings were built around 850, but most of them during the 12th century . The last ones were built in the 19th century .

All information was taken from the respective articles. Otherwise, the information is supported by individual evidence.

Explanation of the list

• Name: Provides the official name of the building.
• Town: Shows the town in which the building is located.
• Year: Shows the year of manufacture. But mostly imprecise.
• Type: A distinction is made between the following building types: Castle , Coming and Palace .
• Condition: Describes the condition of the building. A distinction is made between “preserved”, “ruin” and “decayed”.
• Image: Displays a picture of the building if possible.
• Entrance: Tells of whether the building is publicly accessible. Background color green = "yes", red = "no"
• Noteworthy: Name a special feature of the building.

Alt-Wildberg ruins	Wildberg	unknown	Castle	expired	704031  /  253806		Nothing can be seen of the castle today, but it is believed that the old rectory, which burned down in 1530, was built on the ruins of the castle.
Alt-Wülflingen castle ruins	Winterthur	unknown	Castle	ruin	694143  /  261758		By 1239 at the latest, the castle and rule as well as the high level of jurisdiction were in the hands of the Counts of Habsburg - Kyburg , who built the mighty tower that is still preserved today.
Baldern Castle	Adliswil	853	Castle	expired	680685  /  240973		Remnants of walls can no longer be seen. A serious archaeological investigation has not yet taken place.
Bernegg ruins	Hinwil	1250	Castle	ruin	708004  /  240761		The castle was sold to the Johanniterkommende Bubikon in 1277 for financial reasons . The knights had to undertake to tear down the castle immediately.
Breitenlandenberg ruins	Turbenthal	1300	Castle	ruin	707111  /  253981		The castle was a neighboring castle of the Landenberger and was razed at the beginning of the 19th century. The remains of the foundation walls that are visible today were exposed in the winter of 1925/26.

Ritterhaus Bubikon	Bubikon	1192	Coming	receive	705144  /  236015		The buildings are considered to be the best preserved Johanniterkommende in Europe. They have been owned by the Ritterhausgesellschaft Bubikon since 1936, which they maintain and operate as a museum.
Dättnau Castle	Winterthur	First mentioned in 1271	Castle	expired	about six hundred ninety-four thousand four hundred and seventy-nine  /  260083		The exact position of the castle is no longer known, but it was probably near the intersection of two traffic routes in Dättnau . Seat of the knight Peter von Dättnau, who ruled as Ammann von Zug in the second half of the 13th century.
Dübelstein ruin	Dubendorf	1250	Castle	ruin	688887  /  248345		Owned by the Mayor of Zurich, Hans Waldmann . On May 27, 1611, Dübelstein was almost completely destroyed by fire.
Eglisau Castle	Eglisau	1100	lock	expired	681727  /  269833		Largely canceled in the 19th century. The castle barn and moat with bridge have been preserved.

Gamser Castle	Winterthur	probably 12th century	Castle	expired	about six hundred ninety-nine thousand one hundred fifty  /  210894		Former outer bailey of the Kyburg on the Eschenberg . Almost nothing is known about the history of the castle, traces of a tower could still be seen until the nineteenth century.
Glanzenberg ruins	Unterengstringen	1044	Castle	ruin	674236  /  250605		In 1909, parts of the castle hill had to give way to the industrial railway adjacent to the south. The construction of a flood dam in 1912 destroyed other buildings.
Greifensee Castle	Greifensee	1200	lock	receive	693435  /  246760		The castle in 1995 by means of a lending contract to the Greifensee Castle Foundation as a “place of cultural encounter, further training and information”.
Grüningen	Grüningen	1229	lock	receive	700108  /  237936		The keep was partially demolished in 1783 and badly damaged by fire in 1970.
Hegi Castle	Winterthur	1200	lock	receive	700400  /  262806		In 1947 the castle came into the possession of the city of Winterthur, which established a youth hostel in it.
Hinwil Castle Stables	Hinwil	14th Century	Castle	expired	706650  /  239965		The castle was demolished in the 15th century. Today only the neck ditch is visible.
Hohenlandenberg ruins	Wila	13th Century	Castle	ruin	707696  /  250634		Similar to the ruins of Breitenlandenberg , Hohenlandenberg was a neighboring castle of the Landenbergers , who had their ancestral seat at what is now the ruins of Alt-Landenberg .
Castle Hoh-Wülflingen	Winterthur	First mentioned in 1254	Castle	expired	693855  /  261613		Formerly called Neuburg, from the 16th century the name was transferred to the nearby hamlet and the castle site itself was only called Hoh-Wülflingen or Hoch-Wülflingen. Little is known about the construction and decline of the castle.
Knonau Castle	Knonau	1240	lock	receive	677673  /  230712		After the bankruptcy of the previous owner of the castle, the Swiss Bank Corporation bought the facility at auction in 1994, which the current owner bought in 1998. Despite being privately owned, tours of the castle are offered.

Liebenberg ruins (Tösstal)	Cell	1170	Castle	ruin	701986  /  257035		In 1551 the already half-ruined castle belonged to the Zurich council. He used parts of the castle for new river barriers of the wild Töss and for the construction of a new house.
Manegg Castle	Zurich	1303	Castle	ruin	680992  /  243445		In 1877 Gottfried Keller published a novella about the castle with the title “ The Fool on Manegg ”.

Upper Baliken ruin	Forest	1100	Castle	ruin	710382  /  236941		The remains of the wall of the pentagonal defense tower were excavated and preserved from 1936 to 1939.
Regensberg Castle	Regensberg	1245	lock	receive	675334  /  259595		In 1890 the main building was widened and converted into a school building. New buildings were built in the west and the “lower house” was converted into living quarters and a wickerwork workshop.
Rossberg Castle	Winterthur	First mentioned in 1169	Castle	expired	695726  /  256884		According to the Bishop of Constance, the castle was long destroyed in 1266. 1552 was by a dowser dug and sustainable destroyed, since the castle hill bearing the field names "treasure".
Schauenberg ruins	Hofstetten ZH	1200	Castle	ruin	707633  /  257571		When Beringer von Hohenlandenberg committed an offense against the state peace in 1344 , the Austrian officials destroyed the castle together with citizens of Winterthur and Zurich.
Schnabelburg	Hausen am Albis	1185	Castle	ruin	682859  /  235282		The sons of a former lord of the castle helped murder King Albrecht I of Habsburg in 1308 . In 1309 the Habsburgs destroyed the Schnabelburg in revenge for the regicide.
Schönenwerd ruins	Dietikon	1100	Castle	ruin	674713  /  250210		The castle is said to have been sacked by the people of Zurich in 1334 and 1371 and could not be rebuilt by the impoverished Heinrich von Schönenwerd.
Schwandegg Castle	Waltalingen	around 1300	Castle	expanded to a castle, preserved	700585  /  275585		Former family seat of the von Schwandegg family. Cantonal ownership since 1974. Restored.
Sellenbueren Castle	Stallikon	unknown	Castle	ruin	679200  /  244288		The first and only excavation was carried out in 1950/51.
Sünikon ruins	Sünikon	1397	Castle	ruin	674611  /  259984		No objects from the Sünikon knighthood were found. Probably a pilgrims' hostel .
Teufen Castle	Freienstein-Teufen	1850	lock	receive	685445  /  266525		Between 1876 and 1905 the castle was used as an inn. Today a large viticulture and agricultural business belongs to the complex.
Tössegg ruins	Turbenthal	1200	Castle	ruin	705588  /  255137		After the family castle of the Wildbergers burned down, they bought the small Tösseggburg from relatives in the Töss valley .
Uetliburg Castle	Stallikon	1210	Castle	ruin	679504  /  244821		After the archaeological excavations in 1989, the Uetliberg observation tower was opened next to the castle a year later .
Uster Castle	Uster	1200	lock	receive	696666  /  244637		For several decades the castle complex was used by the cantonal farmer's school and since September 1st, 1995 by the private castle school in Uster.
Wädenswil Castle	Waedenswil	1555	lock	receive	693745  /  230975		In 1890, the Federal Research Institute for Fruit, Viticulture and Horticulture moved into the castle.
Wetzikon Castle	Wetzikon	before 1430	lock	receive	702841  /  242511		Privately owned since 1907.
Wiesendangen Castle	Wiesendangen	1120	lock	receive	701653  /  264187		Today the castle belongs to the municipality, serves as a local museum and is rented out for events.
Winter tower	Winterthur	First mentioned in 1260	Castle	expired			The exact position of the tower and its exact appearance are still unknown today. The razing and declaration of intention not to rebuild is documented in writing in the Winterthur city law letter.
Wülflingen Castle	Winterthur	1644	lock	receive	694968  /  263044		Today the castle is a high class restaurant.
Wulp ruins	Küsnacht	1095	Castle	ruin	688241  /  241846		The ruins were excavated and preserved several times by the Küsnacht embellishment association.
Wyden Castle	Ossingen	1243	lock	receive	696008  /  273804		Badly damaged in the crash of a bomber in 1944, but then renovated and rebuilt by the architects Max Ernst Haefeli , Werner Max Moser and Rudolf Steiger .
