The Château des Allymes ( French Château des Allymes ) in the hamlet of Les Allymes of Ambérieu-en-Bugey , a French commune in the Ain department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes , was built in the 14th century. The hilltop castle has been a protected architectural monument as a monument historique since July 20, 1960 and dominates the plain of the Ain standing on a hill .
history
The castle, which has been the property of the municipality since 1984, was built as a refuge in the 14th century to protect the population of the surrounding villages during armed conflicts. With the Treaty of Lyon in 1601, the Bugey and with it Les Allymes Castle came to France. René de Lucinge, to whose fief she belonged, now entered the service of the French King Henry IV.
description
The medieval castle, mainly built of quarry stone , has two towers that are connected by curtains . From 1847, Adolphe de Tricaud d'Ambérieu, the owner at the time, undertook restoration measures and saved the complex from deterioration. From 1964 onwards, further restoration work and archaeological excavations took place, which could not be completed until the 1970s. The large fortification wall is 90 meters long and ends at a watchtower. The oldest part of the complex is a donjon , which was started around 1351. The attached residential wing dates from the 16th century, a spiral staircase connects the floors.
