history

The castle was probably built by the Käfernburgers in the 12th century . The first lords of the castle were the Ministerial Lords von Liebenstein before the castle fell to the Ludowingers in 1369 . In 1434 the Lords of Witzleben became the owners of the castle, which they expanded into a residential palace in the mid-16th century . Later the complex slowly fell into disrepair and served as a quarry for the villagers.
