Medinghoven Castle
The castle Medinghoven was originally a moated castle in Duisdorf , a part of today's Bonn city district Hardtberg . The present building stands as a monument under monument protection .
The Niederungsburg used to be called Mettekoven , Metinghoven and Medekoven . It is probably the remnant of a former village. Over the centuries the castle was inhabited by different families of knights , including the Lords of Meynwege, the Lords of Ilem and the von Nesselrode family .
Today's villa-like mansion was built after 1834 by Baron Wilhelm von Neuffille in neo-Gothic style. For this he had the old castle buildings laid down. The northern wing of the building dates from 1896. After the end of the First World War , the petrochemist Adolf Spilker acquired the property, which has been in the family of his descendants ever since.
