history
The Hornschloss Castle was built by Duke Bolko I of Schweidnitz to secure the border with Bohemia . It was first mentioned in 1292 in Bolko's deed of foundation for the Grüssau monastery with Reinsko Schoff , castellan of “Hornsbeek”. At that time it served as a counterpart to the Bohemian Freudenburg, four kilometers to the southwest . With the marriage of Princess Anna von Schweidnitz with Emperor Karl IV. Hornschloss Castle lost its strategic importance as a border fortification. In 1395 it belonged to the Oberstburggraf and court master of King Wenceslas IV. Johann Kruschina von Lichtenburg , who was also governor of the Bohemian hereditary principality of Schweidnitz-Jauer .
During the Hussite Wars , Hornschloss was a stronghold of the nobility associated with the Hussites . On behalf of King Matthias Corvinus the castle in 1483 was amended by Schweidnitzer Governor Georg von Stein destroyed. Since it was no longer of strategic importance, it was not rebuilt. In 1497, the Hornschloß ruin, together with Fürstenstein and the Freudenburg, passed as pledge to the Bohemian Chancellor Johann von Schellenberg ( Hanuš z Šelnorfu a Hornšperka ).
Weistritz, Breitenhain, Schenkendorf, Bärsdorf , Wüstegiersdorf , Donnerau and Reimswaldau belonged to the castle district of Hornschloss . In the middle of the 15th century the castle district was connected to the rule of Schloss Fürstenstein . Parts of the castle are still preserved.
