The castle ruin Schellenburg , also called Schellenberg, Neuburg , is the remainder of a spur castle at 750  m above sea level. NHN high mountain spur over the Isar 1300 meters northwest of the Wegscheid chapel in the municipality of Lenggries in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district in Bavaria .

The castle was probably built during the 12th century by the lords of Schellenberg , in 1155 a Rudgerus de Skellenberg was mentioned as a witness in a document for the Schäftlarn monastery . They also owned the neighboring Hohenburg and the castle in Tölz, which used to be in line of sight . The noble family died out in 1708. From the 13th century it was owned by the Tegernsee Monastery , since then the castle was called Neuburg, and it was probably destroyed beforehand. At that time it served as a watchtower over the Isar. In 1593 it was the seat of a bailiff of the monastery.

Remnants of the foundation wall two meters long and 0.5 meters high have been preserved from the former castle complex . The town of Schellenburg, which lies to the east, was probably the castle's former farmyard and possibly the seat of the bailiff .
