Burgstall Eschenlohe

The Postal Eschenlohe , even Vestbühl, Vestbühel, Vestbichel called, refers to an Outbound hilltop castle in spur position at 665  m above sea level. NHN on the so-called Burgstallberg near the municipality of Eschenlohe in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in Bavaria .

history

The castle was built in the middle of the 12th century by the Counts of Eschenlohe and was mentioned in 1157 with a "Werinher de Eccillohe". The castle was re-fortified between 1208 and 1228. The later owners were named Freising Monastery in 1294 , Augsburg Monastery in 1325 and Ettal Monastery in 1332 . The castle was demolished in the middle of the 14th century and the remaining ruins were probably removed for good in 1680 .

description

The main wall, two trenches with traces of walls, remains of the foundation wall and tunnels are still preserved from the former castle complex .

The St. Nicholas chapel is located on the former castle hill, and stones from the old castle ruins were used to build it.
