Burgstall Lichteneck

The Burgstall Lichteneck , also called Lichtenegg , is an abandoned hilltop castle on the Schlossberg, a northeast facing and 760  m above sea level. NHN high foothills of the Aidlinger Höhe. The former castle is located northeast of the district Aidling in the municipality of Riegsee in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in Bavaria .

The castle was built around 1250 by the Counts of Eschenlohe as the second castle next to their ancestral seat, Eschenlohe Castle , to control the salt route from Habach to Murnau am Staffelsee . They later named themselves as Counts of Lichtenegg. After the Counts of Eschenlohe died out in 1295, the Lords of Iffeldorf became Counts of Eschenlohe. In 1458 the castle, which had since fallen into disrepair, was named in a document as the castle stable .

Only the castle hill and a moat are left of the former castle complex .
