Burnbrae is a small settlement with scattered homesteads in the Tasman District on the South Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The name of the place is of Scottish origin. It is made up of " Burn " for Bach and " brae " for Abhang.
geography
The settlement is located on New Zealand State Highway 65 between Warwick Junction in the south and Paenga in the north, 63 km southeast of Westport and 34 km northeast of Reefton .
The Warwick River , a tributary of the Maruia River , which runs about 5 km to the west, crosses the settlement. Between the Maruia River and the place is the 1315 m high Mount Rutland and about eight kilometers north of the 1606 m high Mount Mantell . Burnbrae itself is around 365 m above sea level.
In Burnbrae , a road branches off from State Highway 65 to the east and leads to the valley of the Matakiti River .
