Burnout - the film is an Austrian low-budget comedy by director Johannes Schmid from 2016 that portrays three men who have arrived at a turning point in their lives.

action

The bizarre life coach Master Kiatsu gets three patients who go to therapy with him for completely different reasons: Stefan Köll is sued by a former employee who he punched a fist if he does not go into therapy. Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Sterz is increasingly overworking himself in his profession as an architect and is urged by his wife to visit Master Kiatsu. Paul Ehrenberger catches his wife cheating on him with two other men while on vacation together, and goes into therapy with Master Kiatsu himself.

To help Stefan, Thomas and Paul, Master Kiatsu comes up with various therapies, none of which are successful. He then followed the advice of two colleagues and carried out group therapy in Croatia, in which Stefan, Thomas and Paul should get to know each other better. There, however, he disappears without a trace and his three patients, despite initial tensions, begin to use the time they have together and finally even to build a kind of friendship.

Production and Background

This film was produced by the Tyrolean film collective five season cinema , an association of young Tyrolean filmmakers. Burnout was filmed in Austria, Croatia and Italy, shooting started on May 31, 2015, and ended on September 17, 2016. Burnout was shown in three Tyrolean cinemas, in Innsbruck , Kufstein and Imst . Following was Burnout shown in Imst from 28 October 2016 in cinema4you cinema in Kufstein and from October 29, 2016 FMZ cinema. The film has also been available on DVD and Blu-ray since October 21, 2016.

For a period of more than one and a half years the film collective five season cinema worked on the independent film production Burnout . The entire production, from the script to filming, film music and post-production to the organization of the premiere, was carried out by the film collective itself. With Burnout , the team, some of which had already presented a regionally successful film in 2011 with the thriller Julie , ventured into the implementation of a feature-length feature film. Around 150 people were involved in the shooting.

The work on the Burnout film project took the film team to 30 different locations in Tyrol, but also abroad, with 70% of the film being shot in Tyrol. Shooting abroad took place in Medulin in Croatia as well as on Lake Garda and in Bibione in Italy.

Tyrolean celebrities also have short appearances in the film: Gregor Schlierenzauer plays a shrewd sporting goods seller, Franz Posch a quirky esoteric and Alexander Fankhauser , unsurprisingly, an over-the-top TV chef.

Film music

The film music composed by Martin Anton Schmid is based on a total of 42 musical inserts. In addition to the specially composed film music, which was recorded on July 18, 2016 in Innsbruck, the songs "Its 'A Movie" and "Lets' Make A Barbecue" by the band bacon pilots and "This Is Our Night" by the Band Lovegun, which were also composed by Martin Anton Schmid, used. In the specially composed film music, u. a. various recorders and singing bowls. All the singing bowls used for the film music were cast by the Grassmayr company .

criticism

“A really rough comedy that leads us through the linguistic diversity of Tyrol and serves many clichés. Well-chosen locations alternate with simple indoor sets that are also suitable. The camera work and editing are professional and do not have to fear comparison with much more expensive productions. Actually, too, you get a lot more than you would expect from a 'no-budget project' - you can see that the actors were able to improve significantly over the course of the shooting. In terms of content, Burnout shows us how many prejudices about mental illnesses and addiction problems still exist in our society. The plot also thematizes very nicely how people who are in need of help are trying to capitalize on them. Very valuable insights, which are humorously processed but stick. "
