The Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM) is a research and teaching institute in Munich.

It is a joint institute of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU) and was founded in 1998.

Teaching

The focus of the CDTM is on the training of highly talented students, applied research in the field of information and communication technologies and the promotion of entrepreneurship . The CDTM offers the elite technology management course (honors degree) as part of the Bavarian elite network . The CDTM offers particularly talented students the English-language, interdisciplinary and practice-oriented additional degree in Technology Management. Approx. 25 new students are accepted every semester, the fields of business administration, electrical engineering and computer science being the most strongly represented. The focus of the study program is on the practical teaching of scientifically sound management skills in the field of digital technologies. The teaching benefits from the integration of the students in current research projects and the close cooperation of the CDTM with the economy. The aim of the Technology Management Program is to train innovators who have the necessary technical and interpersonal skills to work together in interdisciplinary teams during their studies as well as to tackle the challenges of today's society with vigor beyond the topic of digital technologies . As part of the Bavarian Elite Network, Technology Management is recognized as a four-semester elite course at Master’s level. The 45 ECTS program ends with an Honors Degree in Technology Management , which is jointly awarded by the sponsoring universities and confirmed by a certificate.

The institute is located in the inner courtyard of Marsstrasse 20-22 in Munich.

Procedure and content

The Technology Management Program extends over a period of one to two years, with three attendance phases (block seminar during the lecture-free period and two regular semesters) in Munich. Technology Management is offered as a supplement to a regular bachelor's or master's degree and thus represents an additional qualification. The program aims to complement classic university training in an application-oriented manner and with a special focus on content. The attendance phases primarily take place in the evening or on weekends in order to ensure compatibility with the primary course. The main focus areas include trend research , product development , entrepreneurship and soft skills . Due to the wide and frequently changing range of elective courses, the core program is always supplemented by new aspects, such as: B. Design Thinking , hardware prototyping or social entrepreneurship are added. A four-month stay abroad is mandatory, either as part of an internship at a company or a semester abroad at a university. Students can this stay abroad either organize independently or use the CDTM network: among other things, there are contacts (and partly fixed posting programs) to universities such as UC Berkeley , Columbia University , Massachusetts Institute of Technology , ETH Zurich and HEC Montréal , as well as companies such as Infosys .

Admission procedure

Students can apply for admission to the CDTM every semester on May 30th and November 30th. In principle, the Technology Management Program is a Master’s level training program and is accordingly aimed at (prospective) Master’s students. Advanced Bachelor students can also apply, provided they have completed at least three semesters of their studies at the planned start of the program. A formal requirement for admission is also enrollment at a Bavarian university at the start of the program. Admission criteria include a. outstanding academic achievements, lived internationality and interdisciplinarity, practical experience as well as a high level of extra-university engagement. After a written selection process, around 60 suitable candidates are invited to a two-stage interview process, of which around 25 students are ultimately accepted. The ultimate ratio of written applicants to admitted students is around 20: 1.
