Helmut Krcmar

Helmut Krcmar (born December 16, 1954 in Hanau ) is a German business IT specialist and economist . Since 2002 he has held a chair for business informatics at the Technical University of Munich . He is also a member of the TUM School of Management . Krcmar was Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University of Munich from October 2010 to September 2013 . In July 2018 he was elected as Vice Dean of the TUM School of Management and founding dean of the TUM Heilbronn campus . Since 2003 he has been the academic director of the SAP University Competence Center @ TUM .

Life

After studying economics at Saarland University , Krcmar worked from 1978 to 1984 at the Institute for Information Systems at Saarland University under August-Wilhelm Scheer . He had a postdoc position at the IBM Los Angeles Scientific Center and was an assistant professor of information systems at the Leonard Stern School of Business of New York University and at the Baruch College of the City University of New York . From 1987 to 2002 he held the chair for business informatics at the Institute for Business Administration at the University of Hohenheim . At the age of 32, Krcmar was the youngest business administration professor ( C4 ) in Germany. At the same university he was dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences from 2000 to 2002.

Since 2004 he has been a faculty member in the elite course in finance and information management (FIM) of the Bavarian elite network . In 2004 Krcmar was a board member of the Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM) at the Technical University of Munich. Until May 2007 he was academic director of the "Executive Training Program Communication and Leadership" and is now Academic Director of the TUM EEC Executive MBA course "Business and IT". Since 2010 he has been a member of the board of the Open Source Business Alliance .

Helmut Krcmar was President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) from July 2014 to June 2015 . Since 1995 he has been actively involved in many AIS activities and congresses. In 2011 Krcmar was also a member of the AIS 'Senior Scholar's Group' and the Leo Awards Committee. He was chairman of this committee in 2012. He is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems.

In research, Krcmar deals in particular with the topics of digital transformation , information management , knowledge management , platform-based ecosystems, management of IT-based services, e-government and computer support for cooperation ( CSCW ). He works with many international companies in his research and has supervised more than 100 dissertations. Krcmar is a frequently cited author (h = 56) and a member of various editorial boards, such as ACM TMIS, BISE , Electronic Markets , ISeB, JIT (Advisory Board) and JSIS (Honorary Board). He is the co-author of numerous research articles published in IS journals such as MISQ , JMIS, JIT, JSIS, ISJ, I&M, CAIS, TOCHI and BISE. In 2015 his book "Informationsmanagement" was published in Germany in the 6th edition.

In 2019, Krcmar achieved first place in the "WirtschaftsWoche" ranking of the strongest research professors in German-speaking countries. In 2019 he was elected an extraordinary member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech).

Further activities / memberships

Furthermore, Krcmar is the spokesman for the board of directors of fortiss gGmbH, the state research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems. He is a member of the data protection advisory board of Deutsche Bahn . Krcmar was co-initiator of the "CIO Circle", a network of almost 1000 CIOs, and was involved in the introduction of a new EMBA program together with the EuroCIO network . He is co-chairman of the National E-Government Competence Center as well as a board member and chairman of the research committee of the supranational association for communication research eV " Münchner Kreis ". Krcmar is the founder of Informations- und Technologiemanagement Beratungsgesellschaft mbH (ITM) and co-founder of RETIT GmbH, Qupe GmbH and Tür an Tür - Digital Factory gGmbH.
