CTV Sci-Fi Channel is a Canadian television station that broadcasts mystery , fantasy , science fiction films and series, as well as action and horror films . The station is headquartered in Toronto , Ontario and is owned by Bell Media .

history

The station received its broadcasting license in 1996 from the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) . The operator CHUM Limited launched the official first broadcast on October 17, 1997 at 6 p.m. with the film Forbidden Planet , followed by a commentary on the film by author Robert J. Sawyer . Then the film Mars Attacks! sent.

Chum Limited began broadcasting Teletoon , MuchMusic, and Space to keep up with the US television chains and prevent excessive US imports, especially to SyFy . However, some TV shows originally came from SyFy, but were broadcast a little delayed by Space. Such as B. the popular US series The Invisible Man . On the other hand, many Canadian series are primarily first aired in Canada. Only after they have been fully broadcast are they also released for other broadcasters such as B. the popular Canadian series Relic Hunter .

CTVglobmedia took over the station on June 22, 2007 when it took over the chain CHUM Limited. On April 1, 2011, Bell Canada took over the station from CTVglobemedia together with MuchMusic.
