Cadmium stearate is a chemical compound from the group of cadmium compounds and fatty acid salts .
properties
Cadmium stearate is the cadmium salt of stearic acid . It is a white, greasy powder that is almost insoluble in water. If the connection is strongly heated, it will decompose, producing cadmium oxide , among other things .
use
Cadmium stearate was used as a plastic stabilizer and, in addition to analogous barium , lead and copper salts, protected PVC and other plastics against the effects of light. It ensures permanent transparency and at the same time improves weather resistance. Because of the toxicity of cadmium, substitutes for it are used today.
