The Café Einstein on Unter den Linden is a known coffee house in Berlin district center on the boulevard Unter den Linden / corner Neustädtische Church Street between the Brandenburg Gate and the Humboldt University . Café Einstein occupies the ground floor of the Pietzsch building , an office and commercial building that was built between 1993 and 1995 according to a design by the architect Jürgen Sawade .

history

The café was opened in 1996 by the director, actor and gallery owner Gerald Uhlig . Dieter Wollstein , who was head of the protocol department of the People's Chamber until 1990 , was hired as head of the restaurant . The coffee house is considered a Berlin meeting place for politics and celebrities.

A gallery with photo exhibitions is attached to the café, with exhibitions and the like. a. by Helmut Newton , Udo Lindenberg , Helga Kneidl and Wim Wenders .

The political WebTV format Café Einstein of the news portal stern.de has been produced in Café Einstein since 2008 . The editors of the weekly newspaper Der Freitag have also met there every week since 2009 .

At the beginning of 2016, Uhlig sold Café Einstein Unter den Linden to a catering consortium.
