California Breed was the name of a rock band that was founded in 2013 by musicians Glenn Hughes ( bass , vocals ) and Jason Bonham ( drums ) as a follow-up project to the band Black Country Communion . Derek Sherinian , who played keyboards in Black Country Communion, no longer belonged to this group. New to the band was the guitarist named Andrew Watt , who was young compared to the other members . In 2015 the group announced its breakup.

history

After the temporary end of the band "Black Country Communion", which was initiated by the departure of guitarist Joe Bonamassa , Hughes and Bonham decided to continue making music together. During a photo exhibition by Julian Lennon in 2013, Lennon introduced Glenn Hughes to the young guitarist and singer Andrew Watt from New York . Shortly afterwards they wrote their first songs together in Los Angeles , of which Chemical Rain and Solo were so convincing that the three musicians agreed to work together.

Both tracks are also part of the debut album produced by Dave Cobb (including Rival Sons ) of the band, which was recorded in Cobb's studio in Nashville and released on May 14, 2014. The song Midnight Oil was released as the first single .

Hughes described the trio's music as follows: “It's real rock. But at the same time the material also sounds contemporary. Andrew is just as influenced by Mick Ronson as he is by Jimmy Page . "" California Breed is real rock 'n' roll - made for this very moment. "

In the tour following the release, Jason Bonham did not take part because he had left the band to accompany Sammy Hagar on his tour. He was replaced by Joey Castillo .

After the band's tour ended in December 2014, the breakup was announced in January 2015.
