Callophrys henrici is a butterfly ( butterfly ) from the family of Gossamer (Lycaenidae) and the subgenus Incisalia .

The wingspan of the moth is 25 to 32 millimeters. On the upper side, all wings are almost unmarked brown, sometimes with a light reddish dust. The underside of the wings is divided into two differently colored areas; in a light brown Postdiskal - and Submarginalregion and a tan to dark brown Diskal - and basal region . The areas are partially separated from each other by a white line. On the underside of the hind wing, a strong outward bulge can also be seen in the middle. There is a very short tip above the tornus . The antennae are alternately ringed black and white and colored yellowish at the bulb-shaped tip.

The pale green eggs are covered with many whitish longitudinal ribs. They are deposited individually on the food plants.

Caterpillar

Adult caterpillars are short and approximately slice-shaped . They have a greenish basic color with a few bumps on the back and are provided with light, rearward-facing horizontal stripes. Immediately before pupation , they take on a red-brown color.

Similar species

The similar species Callophrys augustinus and Callophrys polios show darker and less contrasting drawing elements on the underside of the wing. Callophrys irus is distinguished by a blunt tail on the hind wings.

Distribution area

Callophrys henrici occurs in the south of the Canadian provinces of Manitoba , Ontario , Québec , New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and further south-east partially in the USA to Florida and Texas . The species prefers to live in dry, open forest landscapes.

Way of life

The moths form one generation per year, which can be found in the north in May and June and in the south in March and April. They visit various flowers to take in nectar and also like to suckle on damp places in the earth to absorb liquid and minerals. As food plants of the track, a plurality unterschiedlichster types mentioned, for example: Calia secundiflora , Cercis canadensis , Diospyros texana , Gaylussacia baccata , Ilex cassine , Ilex opaca , Ilex vomitoria , Lupinus texensis , Prunus americana , Prunus pensylvanica , Prunus serotina , Vaccinium corymbosum , Vaccinium pallidum and Vaccinium vacillans .
