The defending champions were Ramy Ashour for men, who defeated Grégory Gaultier 3-0 last year , and Nicol David for women, who defeated Raneem El Weleily in four sets. Unlike Nicol David, Ramy Ashour did not defend his title. The men's competition was won by the top seeded Frenchman Grégory Gaultier, who did not make a set during the entire tournament. In the final he defeated Nick Matthew 11: 4, 11: 5 and 11: 5 and won the US Open for the second time after 2006. Nicol David successfully defended her title in the women's category. She was able to prevail in the final against the world number two Laura Massaro with 13:11, 11:13, 7:11, 11: 8 and 11: 5. For David it was also the second victory at this tournament after 2012.
