The defending champions were Tarek Momen for the men, who defeated Mohamed Elshorbagy 3-2 last year , and Raneem El Weleily for the women, who defeated Nicol David in four sets. Momen was able to reach the final again this year after victories over Cameron Pilley , Mazen Hesham and Chris Simpson . The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 16 players, four of whom were qualifiers. In the women's competition there were 32 players, 16 of whom were seeded. Of the other 16 places, eight were reserved for qualifiers. Per Wildcard received Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan and Rachel Arnold a starting place in the respective main field.
At the tournament, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round.
