CIMB Malaysian Open 2014

The CIMB Malaysian Open 2014 took place from August 18-23 , 2014 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2014/15 and belonged to the PSA International 50 category . The women's tournament was part of the WSA World Tour 2014/15 and belonged to the World Series Gold category .

The defending champions were Peter Barker and Nicol David . While Barker did not run again, David reached the semifinals that year. In the men's category , the top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy won , beating Max Lee 11: 6, 11: 7 and 11: 9 in the final . In the women's finals, Raneem El Weleily defeated Nour El Tayeb 7:11, 11: 3, 12:10, 2:11 and 11: 7.

The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 16 players, four of which were reserved for qualifiers. The eight best players were seeded. For the women, the main field comprised 32 starting places, eight of which were for qualifiers. The best 16 players were seeded. Per Wildcard received Ivan Yuen and Delia Arnold each a spot in the main draw.

Prize money and world ranking points

At the tournament, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The total prize money was US $ 50,000 for the men and US $ 70,000 for the women.
