Cambará do Sul: church |
Cambará do Sul is a city in the east of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil on the border with the state of Santa Catarina . It is located about 180 km northeast of Porto Alegre . The towns of São Francisco de Paula , Jaquirana , São José dos Ausentes, Timbé do Sul , Jacinto Machado and Praia Grande are neighboring . Cambará do Sul was originally part of the São Francisco de Paula municipality.
history
The settlement of Cambará do Sul at that time was located along a trade route in the 19th century and only became a town in 1864 because, due to an anonymous donation, almost 200 m² of land was made available for building a church. Because of this church, more and more cattle herders and settlers settled here.
Sightseeing and tourism
Cambará do Sul is a popular starting point for visiting the Brazilian national parks Aparados da Serra and Serra Geral and their canyons . Another popular destination are the remains of the Mata Atlântica .
The best season to visit Cambará do Sul is in winter, between May and August, when there is less fog due to the Viração phenomenon . These thick clouds of fog are formed because of the direct proximity to the coast and drag themselves into the canyons of the surrounding national parks and can thereby impair any excursions. This is especially true in the traditional rainy month of September.
There is also a slightly different way to spend your vacation here. Various owners of farms or manors offer the opportunity to spend “time in the country” and open their doors to tourists. Since old traditions are still preserved here, the gaucho flair is still present everywhere in this way of life.
Special sights in the area:
- the Itaimbezinho Canyon
- the Andorinhas waterfall
- the river valley above the Río Santa Cruz in the Parque da Ferradura natural park ( "horseshoe park " )
- the highland town of São José dos Ausentes on the highest mountain of Rio Grande do Sul
- the Fortaleza and Malacara canyons
climate
The climate in the area is mild, but always humid. The annual average temperature is around 21 degrees Celsius.
