Campylium even gold sleeping Moose called, is a genus of mosses from the family Amblystegiaceae . The name has its origin in Greek: campylos = curved, which can refer to both the leaves and the spore capsules.

description

The delicate to vigorous plants of this genus grow with irregular to feathery trunks in yellow-green to golden-brown lawns. The mostly sparsely protruding or bent back leaves are often abruptly narrowed from a broad base and drawn out into a long point. The leaf margin is smooth or serrated and flat to slightly bent. A vein is missing or short and double, more rarely single and longer. The leaf cells are linear-worm-shaped, in the often clearly demarcated leaf wings roundish-square.

The species are diocesan or autocratic . The cylindrical to elliptical and curved capsule has a double peristome. The capsule lid is conical.

Distribution and locations

The species of the genus are distributed worldwide, but especially in the temperate to arctic, Antarctic and tropical-montane areas. They are swamp, soil and rock mosses that mainly grow on calcareous subsoil.
