Carel de Wet
Carel de Wet (born May 25, 1924 in the Orange Free State , † May 22, 2004 ) was a South African doctor , politician and ambassador .
Life
Carel de Wet was born in the Orange Free State of South Africa (now the Province of Free State ). He was a grandson of Christiaan de Wet . De Wet attended Vrede High School and graduated from the University of Pretoria , received a bachelor's degree and became a farmer . He was on the board of directors of ATC (Pty) Ltd., a mining company in Vanderbijlpark / Vereeniging . From 1953 to 1964 he sat for the constituency of Vanderbijlpark and from 1967 to 1972 for the constituency of Johannesburg-West in parliament. During his first term as High Commissioner in London , he appeared publicly at the invitation of the Conservative Party in Oxford , the accompanying protests against the Sharpeville massacre were suppressed by the British government.
