Cargo is an Australian horror film based on the short film of the same name .

A frightening pandemic is spreading in the Australian wilderness. While escaping in a houseboat , Andy tries to survive with his wife and young daughter Rosie, but they are slowly running out of food supplies. When they come across the wreck of a sailboat, Andy quickly gets hold of some groceries. A little later his wife also makes her way there with the dinghy, but she is attacked and infected with the virus. The family drives ashore and continues by car. When suddenly a zombie is on the street, Andy evades and hits a tree, which stabs his wife in the passenger seat. He's losing consciousness. When he wakes up again, his wife is a zombie and bites him. Now he has 48 hours left to look for a new protector and guardian for his daughter.
He meets Etta, who tends his wound and provides him with a bed. The next morning he moves on and helps the trapped Vic to free himself. Vic takes the two to him and Lorraine. It soon turns out that Vic locks people in cages and thus attracts zombies to shoot them and take their valuables. When Lorraine and Andy talk, Vic freaks out and knocks Andy down. He wakes up at night with the Aboriginal Thoomi on a chain in a cage, but together they can free themselves and want to flee from Vic with Rosie and Lorraine. However, he notices the attempt to escape and accidentally shoots Lorraine. The three now want to go to a family that Andy has previously seen by the river. Once there, they find that the father of the family was also infected and now wants to kill his family and himself. A little later he does that.
They keep going until Andy finally transforms. Thoomi and Rosie strap themselves on his back and steer the zombie with a piece of meat that is attached to the tip of a stick. They meet the other Aborigines who have found Thoomi and take Rosie with them.

The film was shot in South Australia . Scenes were made there in the Ikara Flinders Range National Park and near the small town of Leigh Creek as well as in the Adelaide Studios in Adelaide . The boat scenes were filmed on the Murray River .
The film won an award at the Adelaide Film Festival on October 6, 2017 and was released in Australian cinemas on May 17, 2018. On May 18, 2018 - with the exception of Australia - it was published worldwide on Netflix . It is dedicated to Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu , an Australian musician who died in 2017.
Nominations and Awards
Cargo received a nomination for the Satellite Award in the Best Miniseries / TV Movie category . There were also five nominations for the AACTA Award , the most prestigious award in the Australian film and television industry ( Best Film , Best Adapted Screenplay , Best Sound , Best Production Design , Best Hair and Makeup ).
The film received the AWGIE Award in the Feature Film - Screenplay Adaptation category .
