Carl-Axel Hageskog

Carl-Axel Ivar Hageskog (born May 24, 1954 in Nässjö ) is a former Swedish tennis player , tennis coach, Davis Cup coach and Davis Cup captain. Today he is a professor at the Pedagogical Institute at Växjö University .

Career

As an active player, he reached the 1982 ATP tournament in Båstad , the Swedish Open , after victories over John Fitzgerald (Australia; 7: 5, 6: 3) and Karl Meiler (Germany; 5: 7, 6: 2, 6: 3 ) the quarter-finals. There he was defeated by Gustavo Tiberti from Argentina 3: 6, 3: 6. With the 1st men's team from Weiß-Blau Würzburg he played in the Bavarian tennis league and regional league.

Davis Cup captain

In the period 1985-2002 he was Davis Cup coach or Davis Cup captain of the Swedish team. He was able to celebrate the following successes with the Swedish team during this time:

In addition to his commitment in the Davis Cup , he was successful as a coach of the Swedish World Team Cup team (1988 - winner with Stefan Edberg , Anders Järryd and Kent Carlsson ; 1991 - winner with Stefan Edberg, Jonas Svensson and Magnus Gustafsson ; 1995 - winner with Stefan Edberg, Jonas Björkman , Magnus Larsson and Jan Apell ) and various players on the ATP Tour . So he worked in his home club Växjö TS with Mats Wilander and Jan Gunnarsson . On the tour he accompanied Anders Järryd, Magnus Larsson, Henrik Holm and Andreas Vinciguerra . In 2006 he was inducted into Sweden's Tennis Hall of Fame .

Today he is a professor at the University of Växjö, where he teaches sports coaching. He also gives lectures on this topic and leads tennis seminars. Together with Stefan Edberg, he runs a training center for young players in Växjö.
