Carl Duering , born as Gerhard Fuchs , in England Carl Fox Duering and Gerald Percy Fox , also Percy Fox (born May 29, 1923 in Berlin ; † September 1, 2018 in London , England ) was a German-British actor . In addition to theater engagements in his almost 50-year career, he has appeared in over 100 productions for film and television, including the cinema productions Arabeske , Duffy, the Fox of Tanger , Im Netz der Abwehr , Uhrwerk Orange and Possession .

life and career

Carl Duering, born in Berlin in 1923, grew up in England. Duering spoke German fluently. After the end of his military service in England he played theater as Percy Fox for several years , in 1950 he finally began a career in film and television under his stage name Carl Duering.

Duering's television career began in 1952 with an appearance on the BBC Sunday-Night Theater series . This was followed by numerous other roles in TV series, television films and television miniseries. He was seen in The Vise (1955–1959), Inspector Maigret (1961), Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone (1961), Simon Templar (1964–1966), The Man with the Suitcase (1968), Gene Bradley in Secret Mission (1973), The Foxes (1975), Agent with a Heart (1984), Firestorm and Ashes (1989) or The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones (1992). Duering played more complex TV roles from 1960 in the Biggles series in 29 episodes, where he embodied the character of Von Stalhein.

At the beginning of his film career, his appearances in movies were still mostly small and limited to minor supporting roles, it was not until the mid-1960s that he got bigger roles. In 1966, for example, he played Prime Minister Hassan Jena in Stanley Donen's agent thriller Arabesque alongside Gregory Peck , Sophia Loren and Alan Badel , Bonivet in Robert Parrish's crime film Duffy, The Fox of Tangier from 1968, General Stryker in Arthur H. Nadel's spy film Im Defense network from 1970 or the Dr. Brodsky in Stanley Kubrick's literary film adaptation of A Clockwork Orange a year later. In 1981 he was seen as a detective in Andrzej Żuławski's horror drama Possession . In 2000 Duering had his final role in the movie production Saltwater , directed by playwright Conor McPherson .
