Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Mithoff (born May 30, 1766 in Madelungen near Eisenach, † August 29, 1852 in Celle ) was the master builder in Hanover.

Life

family

Mithoff came from the old bourgeois family Mithoff (also: Mithobe, Mithobius, Mithof ), who had been living in Neustadt am Rübenberge since 1430 and later in particular in Hanover , from whom a branch was raised to imperial nobility in the middle of the Thirty Years' War . Mithoff's father Friedrich August Mithoff (1719–1780) was the administrator of the Diedesche property. His mother was Luise Eleonore Sophie Charlotte Warendorff († 1775). He was married to Adelheid Lucie Margarethe Hölty († 1833).

Mithoff was the father of the architect and art historian Hector Wilhelm Heinrich Mithoff (1811–1886).

Career

Mithoff attended school in Eisenach and in 1781/82 the grammar school in Hameln . 1782–84 he received private lessons in mathematics and drawing.

1785–1790 he was involved in surveying work in the Lauenstein Office , Jühnde Court and Bleckede Office , and then became an employee of senior building officer Christian Ludwig Ziegler in Celle.

In 1794 he was employed in Celle as a supernumerary conductor for the Hanoverian agricultural sector. He went on study trips to Saxony and Prague with Diedrich Christian Ludwig Witting (1795) and in 1797 to Berlin, Breslau and Danzig. In 1798/99 he studied at the University of Göttingen.

In 1799 he became a supernumerary agricultural conductor in the Bremen-Verden district under the master builder Georg Andreas Vick in Verden.

In 1801/03 he was appointed agricultural administrator in the Lüneburg district and in 1814/18 he was appointed agricultural master. From 1811 he was based in Lüneburg, Uelzen and Celle.

In 1819 Mithoff was promoted as the successor to Christian Ludwig Ziegler, who had died the previous year, to court architect in the district of Celle and in 1825/26 to chief architect. From 1845 he was a member of the fourth class of the Royal Guelph Order and retired three years later.

Mithoff's tomb can be found in Celle on the Hehlentorfriedhof , eastern part.
