Carl Hampel (born December 9, 1849 in Düsseldorf , † January 20, 1930 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German garden architect. He was garden director in Leipzig for 19 years .

Life

Carl Hampel was the head gardener in Berlin for many years and was particularly responsible for the Treptower Park, which Gustav Meyer laid out in 1876 . For 1900 he is named as the Grand Ducal Court Garden Director in Schwerin . But he also worked outside of his permanent positions. In 1891, for example, he designed the Westendpark in Dresden- Plauen (today Fichtepark). When he was appointed garden director in Leipzig in 1901, he was already able to present an impressive series of horticultural and garden architecture publications (see below). In Leipzig he succeeded the first Leipzig gardening director Otto Wittenberg , who had retired.

His first project here was the further design of the König Albert Park designed by Wittenberg beyond the flood channel to the west. In addition to some projects on the promenade ring , an important work was the landscaping of the surroundings of the emerging Völkerschlachtdenkmal as a monument park.

When he retired in 1920, Nicolaus Hermann August Molzen (1881–1954) was appointed as his successor .

With the naming of a place in the monument park as "Carl-Hampel-Platz" ( location ) it was given a special honor in 1931.
