Carl Joseph von Dewitz , also Karl Josef von Dewitz (born January 15, 1718 in Hoffelde , † January 17, 1753 in Vienna ) was a Prussian legal counsel and diplomat .

Life

He came from the Pomeranian noble family Dewitz . His father was the district administrator Stephan Berend von Dewitz (* 1672, † 1728), his grandfather the general and governor of Kolberg Joachim Balthasar von Dewitz . His mother Luise Emilie (* 1684, † 1760) was a daughter of the general and governor of Minden Johann Anton von Zieten .

Carl Joseph von Dewitz studied from 1736 at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) and then at the University of Halle . In 1742 he was in Stettin , first briefly war and Domänenrat the Pomeranian War and Domain Chamber , the actual administrative authority of Pomerania, then Government of the Pomeranian government, which then functioned primarily as the Superior Court. In 1743 he was promoted to Vice Chancellor of the Pomeranian government, succeeding Martin Adrian von Borcke . In 1746 he received the prospect of successor in the office of Chancellor, which Philipp Otto von Grumbkow held. In 1747 he became vice-president of the Pomeranian government.

In 1751 he was sent to the imperial court in Vienna as envoy of Prussia, where he died in 1753 as the authorized minister of Prussia. Christian Friedrich von Ramin succeeded him as Vice President in Szczecin .

He was the heir to Hoffelde , Voigtshagen and Duberkow . He lived lavishly and increased the debt burden of his goods. His attempts to allodify the goods, which were feudal goods , and thereby make them freely tradable, failed due to the lack of consent from the other entitled family members. In particular, Christian Heinrich von Dewitz , district administrator of the Daber-Naugard-Dewitz district, defended the traditional legal status.

Carl Joseph von Dewitz was married since 1743 to Sophia Friederika Albertina (* 1722, † 1781), daughter of the Prussian minister Heinrich Graf von Podewils . There were no children from the marriage. The widow married Maximilian von Fürst und Kupferberg , who later became the Prussian Grand Chancellor , in 1756 .
