Carl Alan Kress (born February 3, 1937 in Los Angeles ) is an American film editor who won both an Oscar for best editing and an Emmy for outstanding performance in film editing .

Life

Kress, son of Harold F. Kress , who also works as a film editor , began his career as an editor in the Hollywood film industry in 1964 on the television series Men in Crisis and has been involved in the production of almost forty films and television series to date.

At the Oscar ceremony in 1975 , he won with his father an Oscar for best editing in the disaster movie The Towering Inferno (1974) by John Guillermin with Steve McQueen , Paul Newman and William Holden in the lead roles . He and his father were also nominated for Eddie , the American Cinema Editors (ACE) award, for editing this film .

For the television film The Night That Panicked America, 1975) by Joseph Sargent with Vic Morrow , Cliff De Young and Michael Constantine , produced by the ABC television film The Night When the Martians Attacked America, he received in 1976 together with Charles L. Campbell, Lawrence E. Neiman, Colin C. Mouat, Larry Carow, Donald L. Warner Jr., John W. Singleton, Thomas McMullen, Joe Divitale, John Kline, and John Hanley received an Emmy for Outstanding Services in Film Editing.
