Vic Morrow
Vic Morrow (actually Victor Morozoff * 14. February 1929 in New York City ; † 23. July 1982 in Santa Clarita ) was a US -American actor .
Life
Morrow dropped out of school at the age of 17 and became a sailor in the United States Navy . He then began law school in Florida . Finally he completed an acting training in New York. He made his film debut in 1955 in the film Blackboard Jungle (German: The Seed of Violence ), in which he attracted attention as a street criminal. The success of this film led to further cinema engagements, in which Morrow did not get beyond supporting roles as a gangster . From 1962 to 1967, he had, however, great success in the title role of the TV series Combat in which he a sergeant ofUnited States Army played during World War II . Morrow also appeared repeatedly as a director and writer for the series .
In 1966, Morrow made his first film as a director and screenwriter with Deathwatch . Several episodes of the Combat series followed, and his second feature film, Der Einsame aus dem Westen , followed in 1970 . Until 1980 he staged individual episodes from various television series.
After the series ended, Morrow's career largely petered out. In 1982 director John Landis gave him the chance to make a comeback on the screen in the episode film Unheimliche Schattenlichter (original title: Twilight Zone : The Movie). During filming, a daring stunt resulted in an accident in which Vic Morrow and two child actors were killed by a crashing helicopter . Morrow found his final resting place in Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City , California .
Vic Morrow's marriage to actress and author Barbara Turner (from 1957 to 1964) resulted in his two daughters Carrie Morrow and Jennifer Jason Leigh .
