Carl Moser (born January 27, 1873 in Bozen ; † July 23, 1939 there ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist . Like all compatriots, Moser received Italian citizenship in 1919.

Life

Carl Moser was the son of the landscape painter Karl Vinzenz Moser . Animated by Franz Defregger , he took up an academy course in Munich in 1896 with Gabriel von Hackl , Ludwig Herterich and Karl Raupp . After graduating from the Academy in 1907, he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris . In 1902 he met Max Kurzweil , who encouraged him to deal with the color woodcut . Carl Moser united the color woodcut of his time like few European graphic artists in a synthesis of Japanese and European pictorial thought. A preferred source of motifs were the landscapes and people of Tyrol and Brittany .
