Carl von Karstedt (born January 20, 1811 in Klein Linde , Prignitz , † June 6, 1888 in Fretzdorf ) was a large German landowner in Prignitz. Before and after the founding of the German Empire, he sat in the Reichstag.

family

Karstedt's parents were Friedrich Leopold Ferdinand Ernst von Karstedt (* August 21, 1788; † August 23, 1812) and Karoline Philippine Christiane Heinriette von Calbo (* January 15, 1790; † August 18, 1823). After Friedrich's death, she married Karl von Brauchitsch (1780–1858), whose son Wilhelm von Brauchitsch was his stepbrother. Carl von Karstedt married on November 1, 1840 in Wölbis Welly Glycere Friederike Brand von Lindau (born March 19, 1819, † November 21, 1883) from the Schmerwitz family. They are the first parents of all von Karstedt still alive.

Life

After attending the Berlin Gymnasium at the Gray Monastery , Karstedt studied law at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin , the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg (1831) and the Corps Borussia Bonn (1833). He then served as a one-year volunteer in the Prussian Army , from which he resigned as Prime Lieutenant . In 1835 he took over the management of his parents' property. Later Karstedt owned a total of eight manors. In 1851 he became a member of the First Prussian Chamber . From 1854 until his death he belonged to the Prussian manor house . From 1867 he sat in the Reichstag (North German Confederation) . From 1871 to 1874 he represented the constituency of Potsdam 2 (East Prignitz) for the Conservative Party (Prussia) in the Reichstag (German Empire) . He died at the age of 77 in the three emperor year .
