Carl Sältzer

Carl Sältzer (* 1860 in Hanover ; † April 5, 1930 in Breitenrode ) was a German merchant and stamp collector .

Life

Carl completed an apprenticeship with his father Justus Wilhelm Sältzer (* November 12, 1835 in Celle ; † January 8, 1896 in Hanover) in his " retail shop for manufactured goods ..." JW Sältzer . After working in Wolfenbüttel and Berlin , he stayed in London and Paris . Finally he returned to Hanover with the decision to expand on a large scale his father's open-air business in Seilwinderstraße , which he entered in 1882 and which he took over in 1888.

In addition to managing and expanding his JW Sältzer, department and mail order company for manufactured and fashion goods , Carl Sältzer developed numerous activities in local, regional and nationwide retail organizations, but also in the chambers of industry and commerce . Among other things, he was Vice President of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1924 until his death in 1930.

Carl Sältzer was the most important stamp collector in the Lower Saxony area, he built up special collections for each individual country. In 1911 he donated his “Hanover” collection with stamps, letters, postal stationery and forms to the Fatherland Museum , today's Hanover Historical Museum .
