Carl Wilhelm Drescher
Carl Wilhelm Drescher (born December 12, 1850 in Vienna ; † December 8, 1925 there ) was an Austrian conductor and composer .
Life
Carl Wilhelm Drescher was trained as a choirboy at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna and then worked there as a choir player . He also attended the Vienna Conservatory , where he played the violin with J. Hellmesberger sen. studied.
From 1866 Drescher was first violinist in the chapel of Philipp Fahrbach the Elder. J. , then with the brothers Johann and Eduard Strauss (1868/69) and Johann Schrammel . He quickly became known with his own chapel, founded in 1874, and soon he was named "King of the Viennese salon orchestras ". Guest performances took him to London , Baden-Baden and Berlin , in 1900 he was awarded the Salvator Medal. On May 23, 1925, Drescher conducted the Dreherpark for the Fiaker anniversary festival at Weigl, in which Edmund Eysler and Hansi Niese also took part.
Drescher's honorary grave is located in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 33A, Row 1, No. 24).
