Carl Woodard

Carl Louis Woodard (born November 7, 1958 in Fayetteville ) is an American - Swedish basketball coach .

Player career

As a teenager, Woodard was a member of the Auburn High School basketball team from 1971 to 1975 in his home country, the United States, and as a sociology and psychology student , he played for the college team at Cayuga Community College, New York, and from 1975 to 1977 1977 to 1979 from Elizabeth City State University (State of North Carolina ). Woodard, who was used as a development player, then switched to the professional camp and played from 1980 to 1993 in Sweden , including for clubs in Linköping and Nässjöand 1992/93 for Jämtland Basket. Sometimes he acted as a player-coach during his playing time in Sweden. At the end of January 1993, traces of a prohibited pain reliever were found in a doping test, which Woodard said he had taken because of knee problems.

Coaching career

From 1993 Woodard worked temporarily as a trainer at Cayuga Community College, from 1994 he lived in Denmark . From 1995 to 1999 he was a coach at Værløse BBK. In 1996 he led Værløse's men's team to win the Danish championship. In February 1999 he moved to the German regional league club BBC Horchheim, for whom he worked until the end of the season.

From 1999 Woodard was the coach of TuS Jena in Germany , which under his direction was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2001 . This ended his term of office in Jena. From the beginning of the 2003/2004 game year he coached the Austrian Bundesliga club Mattersburg 49ers . During the season there was a separation.

From 2004 to 2006 Woodard looked after the Finnish first division club Porvoon Tarmo. In the 2004/05 game year, the team reached fourth place in the table under his leadership. Then Woodard was the coach of Team Sjælland in Denmark, in December 2010 he became head coach of the dukes Wolfenbüttel in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . He stayed in office in Wolfenbüttel until the end of the 2010/11 season. From the end of October 2011 Woodard was the head coach of the first division club BBC Nitia in Bettembourg, Luxembourg . The separation took place in November 2012.

From 2013 to 2015 he was the coach of the Danish team Solrød Comets and then sports director and youth coach for the same club. Woodard has worked as a social worker and youth worker in Denmark and Sweden. In September 2019 he took over as a coach in the youth division of the ALBA Basket club in Allerød, Denmark .
