Carla Couto (born April 12, 1974 in Lisbon ) is a former Portuguese national soccer player and is the record national player in her country.

Career

society

Couto played for Sporting Lisbon at the age of 16 . Various stations in Portugal followed, as well as trips to China and Italy. She had her most successful time at SU 1º Dezembro , where she won the Portuguese championship eleven times and the cup six times. In the UEFA Women's Cup and the UEFA Women's Champions League , however, the Portuguese failed regularly in the first round, for example in the 2003/04 season at 1. FFC Frankfurt . In 2014 she ended her career with Valadares Gaia .

National team

Couto played her first international match in a 3-0 draw against Sweden on November 11, 1993 at the age of 19, but this is not counted by the Swedish Federation and FIFA . Her first international goal she scored on March 20, 1994 in the game for 5th place in the first ever Algarve Cup against Finland . On June 18, 2006, when she played against Iceland in qualifying for the 2007 World Cup, she became the first Portuguese to play her 100th international match . Four years later, on June 23, 2010, she beat the Portuguese record of her male colleague Luís Figo with her 128th international match . She played her 145th and last international match a week before her 38th birthday on April 5, 2012 as part of the qualification for the EM 2013 against Austria . Couto was never able to qualify for a major football tournament with the national team and, in comparison to other players who played a comparable time for their country, had "only" 145 international matches. She and her team took part in the Algarve Cup regularly - except in 2000, 2006 and 2007 - and with 19 goals she was the tournament's record scorer until 2014 together with Abby Wambach , then Wambach scored two more goals in 2014. She played a total of 60 games in the Algarve Cup. After retiring, Couto became an ambassador for the women's national team.
