Carlin Glynn

Carlin Elizabeth Glynn (born February 19, 1940 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American actress .

life and career

Carlin Glynn attended Lamar High School in Houston and took part in theater productions while still in school. In New York she studied at the Actors Studio and took acting lessons from Stella Adler . However, the birth of her three children ensured that she did not continue her beginning acting career apart from a few appearances in commercials. Only after a break of around 15 years did she return to her profession, for example in 1975 with her film debut in the political thriller The Three Days of the Condor . For her appearance in the play The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas on Broadway , she received the 1979 Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical . She played in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas for a total of four years, and in 1982 she won a Laurence Olivier Award for appearances in London .

Glynn then increasingly turned to roles in film and television, where she was very often seen in roles as a southern lady , for example as Lady Bird Johnson in the television miniseries The Fate of Jackie O. (1991). Her best-known film roles include the mother of Molly Ringwald in the John Hughes comedy This is only allowed as an adult (1983) and Geraldine Page's daughter-in-law in the Oscar-winning drama A Trip to Bountiful (1985). Most recently, Glynn was in 2006 for the television series Criminal Intent . At times she also taught acting at Columbia University .

Glynn was married to actor, director and producer Peter Masterson from 1960 until his death in December 2018 . Their three children are the actresses Mary Stuart Masterson and Alexandra Masterson and the cameraman Peter Masterson junior .
