Mary Stuart Masterson (born June 28, 1966 in New York City ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

Masterson is the daughter of director, writer and actor Peter Masterson and actress Carlin Glynn . As a child, she starred alongside Katharine Ross in the 1975 film adaptation of The Wives of Stepford . The actress studied anthropology at New York University for a few months .

Masterson starred in numerous films such as the 1991 drama Green Tomatoes with Kathy Bates and Mary-Louise Parker , in which she took on one of the bigger roles. In 1994 she was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for her role alongside Johnny Depp , Aidan Quinn and Julianne Moore in the comedy Benny & Joon from 1993 . In the western Bad Girls (1994) she appeared with Madeleine Stowe , Andie MacDowell , Drew Barrymore and Dermot Mulroney . In 2003, she was honored for her role in the musical Nine The Musical for prices Tony Award , Outer Critics' Circle Award and Drama Desk Award nominations; she also won the Theater World Award for this role .

Masterson directed the drama The Cake Eaters (2007); she also co-produced the film. She received the Ft. 2007 People's Choice Award . Lauderdale International Film Festival and the 2008 Ashland Independent Film Festival Audience Award .

Masterson was married to George Carl Francisco from 1990 to 1992 and to director Damon Santostefano from 2000 to 2004 . In 2006 she married actor Jeremy Davidson .
